Assessment Tests
Throughout the year, assessment tests are provided for new and returning students.
Why would I need an assessment test?
If you do not have proper school records (within the last 3 years) at a Canadian high school, then you will need an assessment to be placed into a class which best fits your current ability.
How do I get one?
In order to get an assessment test you must come into the school to pay the front office. The assessment will cost $20 and at that time you will be able to register for a test on a DIFFERENT day. You will need to bring proper photo identification proving that you are a Landed Immigrant or a Canadian Citizen. Call the office for more information. What happens if my English skills are not high enough?
Don't worry! If your English is not strong enough then you will simply be asked to take an assessment test at one of our other schools. That way you can begin taking classes in another centre. Once your English has improved, then you will be able to attend Main Street Education Centre.
What happens if I fail the test?
It is impossible to fail the test! The test is designed for all levels so that it helps the academic advisor decided which class is best for you.
Why do I need to take a Math assessment test too?
If you are wanting to be a non-fee paying student (meaning your classes are "free") then you must take many different classes including science and math. Therefore, in order to properly place you in science and math classes, you must take the assessment test.
What happens if I don't agree with the results of the assessment test?
You may retake the assessment test after one year. Each student has the right to take a maximum of one assessment test per year.
