Am I having difficulties understanding the class material?
Do I have trouble completing problems?
Am I struggling to understand concepts?
Could I improve my grade in class with the help of a tutor?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may benefit from the help of a peer tutor.
2. If you see a Peer Tutor who can help you, look for their availability on the calendar.
3. If their availability matches your schedule, email Dave Hamar dhamar@vsb.bc.ca to recommend an appropriate tutor.
4. Dave will email you the Tutor's contact. Email the Tutor and confirm your tutoring session with the Tutor.
5. Go to your tutoring session. Know what you need help with and think of some questions to ask the Tutor.
What happens if there's no available Tutor to help me?
Email Dave with the subject you need help in and what times you are available. Dave will post this information on the board and try to match you with a Tutor.
The program is designed for students to get volunteer experience or course credit for tutoring their peers in a subject that they are comfortable. In order to get full course credit the student is required to tutor for a minimum of 100 hours.
Students tutoring for volunteer experience often do so to improve their chances of receiving a scholarship, being accepted into post secondary or finding employment. Therefore, often they need a reference letter to verify their work in the program. The Outreach Worker can provide this for them when they have completed their workload.
